To mark World Geography Week 2026, DAIGON Esports is hosting an inter-school virtual tournament: the DAIGON Global Geography Cup.

Taking place on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th November 2026, primary and secondary schools across our global partner networks—including COBIS, ISA, BSME, ECIS, and IAPS—will go head-to-head in a structured, fast-paced geography showdown powered by custom GeoGuessr challenges.

If you are looking for an engaging, zero-headache way to bring real-world exploration and friendly competition into your classrooms this November, here is everything you need to know.

What is the Global Geography Cup?

The DAIGON Global Geography Cup is an asynchronous, classroom-friendly virtual tournament designed to fit seamlessly within normal lesson timetables.

Rather than loose, free-roaming internet browsing, students tackle bespoke, curriculum-aligned challenge maps built directly to the National Curriculum standards for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. Students examine real-world panoramic environments, evaluate physical and human geographical clues, and pinpoint their location on the map.

Every participant plays as an individual in your classroom, with their scores feeding into a live, aggregated School Leaderboard. By the end of Tuesday, the global standings will be finalized, crowning the world’s top geography classrooms!

Mapped Directly to the Curriculum

Our challenges don’t just drop students into random streets; each map is tailored to core curriculum topics across both Key Stages:

  • Locational Knowledge: Identifying world countries, continents, oceans, and capital cities from physical landforms, architecture, language, and cultural markers.
  • Physical Geography: Deciphering biomes, mountain ranges, famous river valleys, volcanic landscapes, and climate indicators.
  • Human Geography: Analyzing settlement density, land use, global transport hubs, ports, and trade networks.
  • Comparative Place Studies: Exploring regional contrasts (e.g. urban vs. rural, or comparing UK landscapes with Europe, Asia, and Africa).

Each location has been vetted for classroom safety: non-moving, static 360° panoramas that keep students focused on curriculum investigation while avoiding inappropriate or sensitive content.

Tournament Format & Schedule

To ensure zero clash with the upcoming World Esports Championships in Malta, the tournament runs across two days:

  • Monday 16th November – Stage 1: Locational Knowledge & Physical Biomes
  • Tuesday 17th November – Stage 2: Human Footprint, Land Use & Global Cities
  • Tuesday Evening: Final Global Scores tallied and winners declared!

Quick, Focused Sessions

Each challenge block is designed to take roughly 20–30 minutes, making it ideal as a lesson hook, a focused starter, or an after-school club activity:

  • Key Stage 2 (Ages 7–11): 12 curated locations (approx. 2 minutes per drop).
  • Key Stage 3 (Ages 11–14): 18 curated locations (approx. 1 minute per drop).

Frictionless Setup for Teachers & IT

We know teacher time is precious, so the competition is designed to require virtually zero setup:

  • No Student Accounts or PII: You never need to upload student personal data. The DAIGON platform generates simple, printable student nicknames/guest passes directly from the teacher dashboard.
  • Automated Lobbies: The teacher starts the session with one click, our system generates the GeoGuessr game lobby, and scores are automatically captured and calculated into the leaderboards.
  • Pre-Event Practice & Testing: Participating schools will be onboarded ahead of time with access to training maps. This ensures your school firewalls, devices, and networks are tested and fully verified before match day.
  • Capacity: Each school registration supports a full classroom cohort (up to 50+ students on a single school admin account).

How to Enter Your School

Registration opens officially on Monday 12th October 2026. Entry is £150 per school cohort, giving your school full access to the competition platform, training modules, and the global leaderboard.

Capacity is strictly capped at 100 schools to ensure dedicated technical onboarding and support.
